Well, it’s been a long time since we discussed about virus removal. I wasn’t able to be active on my site for a long time due to some other works, now I am happy to be live again! Today, we will discuss about the removal of the most popular and problematic virus, the Shortcut Virus!

In this article, I will be explaining two different kinds of Shortcut Viruses and the ways to deal with them. It’s not very easy to clean them permanently since most Anti-Virus applications fail to detect them. Mostly, these viruses are spread through Pendrives.

Above screenshot is of a kind of Shortcut Virus that is spread through Pendrives. Here the entire files in the Pendrive are moved into other folder that has no name (follow this tutorial to know how to create a folder without name) and kept super hidden in the Pendrive itself! When we open the shortcut, it will open that folder but, along with it a strange application will also execute and by that time, virus will be injected to your system!

Most users will just try to open this shortcut and that’s how the virus is spread to the system. All we have to do is the following steps:

First of all, just delete that Shortcut! It’s the main link that helps to execute the virus (Don’t worry, your’s files won’t be lost. They are all safe)

Now, if the Virus is already in your system, then the Shortcut will reappear! If it happens, then do the next step

Open Task Manager by Right Clicking on the taskbar

Now, in Details tab (Windows 7 & Older, Process tab), search for any of the following processes (in some cases, you may need to click Show process from all users)

taskhost.exe

 (it is not a virus, it is a system file, but helps spread virus sometimes)

process with meaningless names like: cbxghsrjgbdds.exe, odwcamszas.exe etc.

End all such processes by selecting them and clicking End Process Tree (or End Task) button

Now, try again to delete that shortcut. It won’t reappear. Then we have to recover our files that the virus took!

For that, open your pendrive and then open Folder Options

Windows 8/later: in the Ribbon, View tab -> Options.

Windows 7 users: Organize Folder -> Folder Options.

Windows XP: View -> Folder Options

In Folder Options, go to View tab and uncheck “Show hidden files, folders and drives” and uncheck “Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)“

There you can see a hidden folder with an icon of Pendrive, but it will not have any name. Open that folder, there you can find all your files

Move all that files back into the root folder of pendrive except a file with a long name (it is a virus file, ignore it)

Now delete that unnamed folder. That’s it! one more task remaining to completely remove the shortcut virus from your computer

Even though you performed all above steps, when you restart your system, the virus will again come back! Following steps should be done before you restart to completely remove the virus:

Textreme is a text replacement program for Microsoft Windows systems that takes standard automated text editing features to the next level.

The majority of text editors for Windows ship with basic text editing and replacement options. Use search and replace, and a handful of other features to edit text semi-automatically.

Textreme has been created by its author to take it to the next level, as it supports all these basic functions but also advanced options which go as far as deleting sections of text or switching bits around.

Textreme Review

Textreme is provided as a 32-bit and 64-bit download on the developer website. The program is portable and can be run from any location it is extracted to after the download.

There is a lot going on in the interface, but everything is there for a reason which you will notice shortly after starting to work with Textreme.

First thing you do is add a text file to the program that you want to process. Please note that Textreme is only compatible with plain text data types such as txt, php, css or logs and not rich data types such as doc, pdf or odt.

You find general settings and processing options displayed underneath the input and output file. There you select the processing parameters, e.g. start at line one and process all lines, and general options such as replacing adding line numbers to the file, word wrapping or line splitting.

The main replacement and processing options are listed in the lower half. A total of ten options are displayed by Textreme that you can add to the processing queue.

1. Change Case (Upper, Lower).
2. Delete After (Position, Delimiter), Delete Up To (Count, Delimiter, The End).
3. Exclude (Exclude all lines that contain).
4. Include (Only include matching lines).
5. Insert (Insert Characters as Prefix, Suffix, after position, before, or after).
6. Kill Blanks (Remove leading, trailing, leading and trailing, all blanks).
7. Move (Move characters to another position).
8. Remove (Select Characters to remove, if they are first, last, all).
9. Replace (Same as remove, only that they are replaced).
10. Switch (Switch characters with each other).

You can add functions more than once to the queue, and save or load lists. You may also reorder the priority of functions using the move up and down buttons provided in the interface.

You find options to open the source file in the default editor on the system, or preview the first 25 lines of it directly without doing so. A click on the go button starts the replacement operations.

The functionality that Textreme provides offers several interesting processing options. For instance, you could use its delete function to remove all "//" comments from a source code file, remove localhost entries from a logfile, or replace code in a HTML document.

One limitation of the program is that it can only process single files when you are using the interface. The author has added an option to run Textreme in Batch mode, but it requires a bit of preparation and may be too complicated for general use.

You find instructions in the help file that is part of the program archive. It would be much simpler if users could queue text files that they want to process in the same manner that functions are queued in the program.

Alternatives that you may want to check out include:

• GGrep for Windows, based on Unix's popular Grep tool.
• Replace Genius, another program for Windows that displays a preview of the processed file. Supports several functions of Textreme.
• Textcrawler, a batch processing program.
• WildGem, displays the original text file and the processed file in the same window making it dead easy to replace text using the program.

URL Monitor is a free portable program for the Windows operating system that records URLs that you copy to the Windows Clipboard automatically.

The main idea behind the program is to make it easier to record and process URLs that you have copied while you were working on the computer, and to process the collection of web addresses once you are done.

The program works right after you start it on your computer. Since it is portable, you can run it from any location including USB Flash drives or even optical discs.

URL Monitor

All web addresses that you copy -- regardless of program that you use to do so -- are saved by URL Monitor near instantly in its interface.

There you find them all listed and can process them according to your needs at the end of the work session or day.

One limitation that URL Monitor has is that the monitoring components picks up only the first address if you copy a list of URLS to the Clipboard.

It cannot be used therefore to record a batch of URLs in one quick move.

The program interface holds several options to handle URLs. A double-click opens any of the sites listed by the program in the default web browser.

The list can be saved as a HTML or TXT file, or as a .list file which the program uses internally to load and save lists of URLs.

The export options are quite useful, as you may use them for safekeeping, but also to access all saved site links using an HTML file that you can put anywhere (even on file hosts like Dropbox).

Check boxes are provided to mark multiple items to either have them deleted from the list or verified with one click of the button.

Settings

The settings hold no surprises for the most part. Use them to change the program's theme, disable the clipboard monitoring, or change the double-click behavior.

Probably most interesting are  the validation options provided here. The program validates urls before it adds them to the program and you may extend the validation to other actions such as saving URL lists.

By Jayson KimathiOn Wednesday, February 10, 2016 you know very many times we have been very tired with movies or audios downloading at a very slow speed depsite the internet that we are using being soo stable and fast.Before i tried internet download manager or IDM as it is popularly known i though that it would not work but nowadays let me tell you the truth that i download whatever i need from the internet when i am all smiles because the speed is just crazy.Idm downloads five times much faster than the normal speed and it is able to do this because it divides the files it is downloaading into five parts and all of tem download at almost the same speed so therefore it is able to finish the same kind of task as a mucher lesser time than the normal time.After it has downloaded it will ask you the user of the machine where you would prefer your documents to be stored after downloads.Then you can adjust the settings and you must register for idm that mean cash but all this comes after 30 days of the trial version.
